China
China is a country of enormous regional variety, and this site covers it the way we actually travel it: city by city, with real meals, real prices and real routes rather than a single national itinerary. So far that means two provinces in the south — Guangxi, with its karst rivers and noodle culture, and Guangdong, with its coastline and Zhanjiang’s seafood traditions — and we’re adding more as we go.

Essential China Travel Information
- Best time to visit: spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons across southern China, avoiding the summer heat and humidity.
- Payments: mobile payment apps (WeChat Pay, Alipay) are the default almost everywhere; carrying some cash is still useful as a backup.
- Getting around: China’s high-speed rail network connects most mid-size and large cities quickly and affordably — usually the easiest way to move between the destinations on this site.
- Language: Mandarin is the national language; regional dialects are common but Mandarin is understood everywhere we’ve traveled.
- Connectivity: many Western apps and sites are not accessible without a VPN set up before arrival.
