eGourd (egourd.com) is an independent travel journal. This page explains what happens to information when you visit the site. The short version: we do not ask you for personal information, and we do not track you.
Information you give us
There is currently no way to submit personal information through this site. There is no account registration, comments are turned off, and the newsletter form on the homepage is not yet connected to an email service, so nothing typed into it is stored or sent anywhere.
If you contact us directly — for example to pitch an article — we keep that correspondence only for as long as it is useful, and we do not add you to any list without asking.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our hosting provider records standard server logs when a page is requested. These logs typically include:
- the IP address of the device making the request
- the browser and operating system reported by that device
- the page requested and the time of the request
- the page that referred you, if any
These logs are used to keep the site running and to investigate errors and abuse. They are not used to build a profile of you, and they are not sold or shared for advertising.
Cookies
We do not set advertising or tracking cookies. WordPress sets cookies only for people who log in to manage the site — as an ordinary visitor you will not receive one.
Analytics and third-party services
At the time of writing, no analytics or third-party tracking scripts run on this site. If we add analytics in future, we will update this page before it goes live and will choose a configuration that does not sell or share visitor data.
Embedded content
Articles may in future embed content from other sites, such as maps or videos. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other site, and those sites have their own privacy policies. Where we embed something, we will say so on the page.
How long we keep things
Server logs are retained by our host for a limited period and then discarded. We do not maintain a separate database of visitor information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Because we do not collect personal information from visitors, in practice there is usually nothing to retrieve — but you are welcome to ask.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes — for example adding analytics or an email service — will be described rather than quietly swapped in.
